 What Do Medical Assistants Do?

As a medical assistant, your job is to assist the health care provider with clinical procedures, such as administering EKGs, recording vital signs, administering injections, assisting in minor surgical procedures, and performing the duties of a phlebotomist. You may also be responsible for administrative office tasks, such as word processing, filing, basic accounting, billing and coding, and operating basic office equipment.

 Specialized Training in Phlebotomy

The curriculum for this program includes the specialized training required to become a phlebotomist. Your phlebotomy classes will offer in-depth study of the circulatory system and lab blood testing. You will have an opportunity to learn blood collection techniques, including venipuncture, capillary blood draws, bedside testing, labeling test tube additives, and safety and control measures.

Prior to graduation, you will be required to complete an externship to apply what you learn in school in a real-world clinic, physician's office, hospital, health maintenance organization, or other allied health facility.

 A Promising Health Care Career

In the medical assistant program at CHI Institute, you can acquire the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits you need to become an integral part of the health care team as a medical assistant.
